A grease fire travels up the exhaust riser in seconds. A fire-rated duct is the one thing standing between a kitchen flare-up and the whole building going up. In Aotearoa, that's not a nice-to-have — it's the Building Code.
Where a kitchen exhaust riser passes through a fire separation, the Building Code requires it to maintain that separation for the rated period. No rating, no sign-off.
